Memories (They Run Over You)

September 5, 2020

My partner and mentor in music, cousin Troy is turning 50 in the year 2020.  I struggled for a while to figure out what you could get an individual that has meant so much to you from a creative perspective (also, who has enough money in his coffers to buy anything he wants, much like any other 50 year old out there).

Back To The Sea

August 13, 2018

The hard part of writing songs is when you are being requested to write one instead of letting it hit you like any good muse does.

That was the problem when Mom was asking for a song written for her.  What would I write about?  How I loved the fact that she stayed with us when we were kids?  How awesome her casseroles were?  How I love her infectious laugh?  No!  There had to be a stronger song out there to be sung.

Wakeham, QC

August 8, 2018

August 2018, the Miller family gathered down in Wakeham for a reunion.  During that time John and I got the band back together and we gathered new members along the way.

As with all good jam sessions, the first night is always magical as the excitement of playing together again fuels us through sore fingers.  Unfortunately the recording of that night stopped halfway through as I didn’t have a large memory card inserted.  I was quite upset at that fact and rectified that by purchasing the largest card I could find the next day.

A Girl Like You

August 18, 2012

There’s really only one girl for me and it’s my smoking hot wife Véro!

Inspired by Daniel Lanois’ Rocky World, I set out to write a song that I could sing to her on our wedding day.  Throughout the years I had attempted to write a song that encapsulated everything I feel about her, but it’s kind of hard to do that in a 4 minute song.  But here was my attempt and I think it came out pretty good.

705

January 1, 2009

Around 2005 I started realizing that the key to loving music is not venture off the beaten path and start writing songs instead of just learning other people’s songs.  But the key to that, for me at least, was to try and emulate some songs I loved.
